On September 8, 2009, the Baltimore County Council passed legislation authorizing the use of speed cameras in school zones in Baltimore County-Bill 61-09. Passage of this important public safety legislation, authorizes Baltimore County to implement a speed camera program in up to 15 school zones across the County. Baltimore County chose Affiliated Computer Services as its primary vendor of speed cameras, which monitor traffic around school zones, and record the license plates of those vehicles exceeding the posted speed.

Michael Huber is a new media/journalism major at Towson University. He has been covering the topic of speed and red-light cameras in Baltimore since February 2011 with the objective of uncovering all aspects of these cameras, how they affect the public, the county and the state.
